Senior Consulting
Outside of Medicaid consulting, The Sonya Group can help create customized care plans based around your wishes. From selling a home to choosing the right facility, we take an all-embracing approach to preparing for the future. We want to be your trusted resource throughout the entire planning and transitioning process.
As experts in the field, we know you’re faced with difficult changes, tough decisions and a seemingly endless number of questions. However, we will break it all down to answer the how, what, when and where of care management planning. As always, our mission is to listen to your wishes, educate you on the available options and advise you on the best route to take.
The Sonya Group will start by exploring and vetting all possible options. We’ll then help you determine what route best aligns with your wishes. Whether your plan involves home care or other care facility options, we take a relationship-oriented, hands-on approach rooted in compassion, empathy and expertise. Whether you’re proactively planning for the future or need a more immediate solution, we understand the stress of long-term care planning and will walk you through the entire process from start to finish.
Placement for Medicaid Facilities
The Sonya Group can help find a skilled nursing or assisted living facility that accepts Medicaid. If you meet Medicaid’s financial eligibility requirements, the program will pay for all or some of skilled nursing or assisted living care.
Since the Medicaid process can be complex and confusing, we can also help you and your family determine the best strategies to secure Medicaid eligibility. We’ll then work together to find a facility that best fits your needs and wishes. We know everyone is different, so we take a hands-on, individualized approach to determine the best place for you or your loved one.
Annual Medicaid Reviews
Medicaid renewal for seniors must occur at least once every 12 months. This redetermination process ensures you are still eligible to receive Medicaid benefits. Specifically, your monthly income and assets are checked to make sure they are still within eligibility limits.
Before this annual review, The Sonya Group can help make sure your assets and income are below the Medicaid threshold. Medicaid is complex, but we’ll help you make sure your coverage is renewed for another year.
Medicaid Estate Recovery
If you receive Medicaid-funded long-term care after the age of 55, Medicaid can recover the money it spent on your care from your estate after your death. Upon the enactment of the 1993 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA), it actually became mandatory for states to recover funds from individuals who incurred long-term care Medicaid expenses from the age of 55 on.
The rules to the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program (MERP) are complex, and in many instances, you might not be able to protect your estate. However, advanced planning with a professional may be able to protect some or all of your assets. Additionally we help you with the Estate Recovery process after your loved one passes away. Reach out to The Sonya Group to discuss your unique situation.
Healthcare Plans
Seniors have multiple options when it comes to medical insurance, and with the rising costs of healthcare, having just one plan might not provide sufficient coverage. Along with Medicaid, The Sonya Group can answer your questions regarding Medicaid rules on keeping your existing coverage. Should you need additional coverage or change, she will refer you to a licensed agent.
